I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Miami, Florida. I moved to New York City in the fall of
1997, where I attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. I started off studying fashion
illustration, but then I made the switch to major in graphic design. I started working in film after
the design firm where I worked went under. I worked from home as a graphic designer and a
PA on various film projects and art installations. I started off as a PA and quickly landed in the
art department on independent films, shorts and student thesis projects. In 2013 I started
working for IATSE under the jurisdiction of local 52. In 2016 I became a proud union member. I
have worked in the art department in various major motion pictures and television series, such
as Gotham, Madam Secretary, Jessica Jones, The Good Fight, and the The Plot Against
America
to name just a few. I’ve worked in various positions in the art department but by far the
set decorator is my favorite position.

Q&A with Lisa Green

Q.

How do you define beauty?

A.

Beauty is a manifestation of a well-engineered aesthetic concept and a perfect expression of a visual, literary or emotional idea. Beauty “has power, genius and magic in it.” A masterpiece of art, the sound of a tabla drum, the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, the poetry of Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes, Alvin Ailey Dancing Theatre Company, the music of John Coltrane, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the lyrics of Kendrick Lamar of Yasiin Bey, the voice of Leontine Price. Beauty is anything man-made or occurring in nature that stirs the senses.

Q.

Describe your childhood bedroom?

A.

My bedroom as a child was filled with stuffed animals and toys. My favorites were my brown Barbies (which were rare in the 80s), my Cabbage Patch Kids, and my Garbage Pail Kids sticker collection. As I grew older my walls were covered in posters and my own paintings.

Q.

Best advice you’d give your teenage self?

A.

Be less judgemental, the world is not what you think it is, not even close. Life is not as black and white as you think, so much of it is grey and that’s just fine. Also treasure your family.

Q.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

A.

My daily meditation practice keeps me grounded, regular exercise keeps my mind sharp and my children keep me laughing.

Q.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

A.

I would like to be better at receiving compliments.

Q.

Favorite city to recharge?

A.

My favorite city to recharge is Miami, my family is there. When I finish a job I usually find some excuse to take a trip down south to put my feet in the sand, feel the sun and look at the clouds.

Q.

What is one thing that is always in your refrigerator?

A.

I always have coconut water in my fridge. I love that it’s perfect as is, and the hydration factor is important to me.

Q.

What is your favorite time of day?

A.

I love the middle of the night. It’s like a void of time that’s quiet. Being a mother, it’s precious time when the kids are asleep. I’ve always been a person that comes alive at night.

Q.

What is your spirit animal and why?

A.

My spirit animal is an octopus, they have multiple tentacles for multitasking and hugs. They are creatures of great beauty, they are so much more clever than they appear, and they do everything with grace and ease.

Q.

What is a physical feature you love about yourself?

A.

I love my smile, I love that my smile makes other people smile which makes me smile.
